Product: BLUETAKE BT510 Bluetooth Mouse and BT009Si Bluetooth USB Adapter Introduction- For the mobile computer user, nothing is worse than bringing cables into your wireless world. A wireless mouse is an ideal accessory for those computing on the road. Bluetake’s BT510 promises to be a wireless mouse with something to offer for anyone. Features/Specifications-
Packaging- The packaging is a standard plastic bubble providing adequate protection for the device and its materials.
In the Box-
Setup- Setting up the device was simple, and easily accomplished within the means of Windows XP. Bringing the mouse into range of your Bluetooth-equipped machine will prompt Windows to install it automatically. This method is effective and the most painless. Should you be on a Mac with Bluetooth, your setup will be instantaneous. The mouse shipped with a Bluetake BT009Si USB adapter. The device complies with the Bluetooth standards, and works seamlessly with Windows. This adapter provides a universal Bluetooth connection for you r PC, so it will work with other devices than the Bluetake mouse. I found it to be an excellent device, and surprisingly small at that. The Mouse- For starters, this is not a performance device like the other mice we have reviewed. Rather, this is targeted to the mobile office user. For a wireless mouse it has a bit to offer. First off, the mouse is fully compliant with Bluetooth standards, and configures easily. It carries t w o AAA batteries that do little to weigh t things down. It looks sharp, with an all - white body. The mouse idles after a few seconds, and will take the better part of a second to bring it back. While there is a USB power cable, I found it to be rather useless. It does not charge the batteries in the device when plugged in, and the plug is on the wrong side of the mouse for right-handed users. Still, should your batteries die, it’s a viable alternative. The form of the device is another drag. It’s kind to the left-handed users by being symmetrical, but it’s rather uncomfortable either way. The buttons push far too easily and often times unintentionally. The wheel is positioned well; since the mouse is so small , placing the wheel on the front of the device makes perfect sense. Rolling the wheel reveals a defined click to the movement, but the middle button is far too sensitive. The optics are decent, and provide a quality experience. I tested the device on a laminate desk surface, cloth mouse pad, and a high-performance pad. It worked well on all the surfaces. Still, to test this mouse, the unorthodox mousing surfaces of the office traveler need to be taken in to account. A hardcover book, manila folder, and pants leg were also tested, and it performed well. The mouse worked as well as any other mouse intended for office use. On the underside is a power switch, and a connect button. An additional latch will release the top cover, which lifts straight off – providing access to the batteries. The mouse will work suitably well for office applications. Conclusion-
The BT510 is a capable Bluetooth mouse that will work well enough for the mobile user doing office type work. It’s ambidextrous, works well, and sets up easily. Unfortunately, the buttons are a little touchy, and the USB cable is positioned poorly. Those looking for a decent mouse for their laptop will be pleased. It provides a good alternative to the touchpad, and looks good too. A cheaper device without Bluetooth support would suffice, as long as you don’t mind the wires.
